Samantha Nell is a South African writer, director, and cinematographer. She completed her MFA at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Asia in Singapore in 2014. She has directed short films on three continents and has received recognition for the short documentary 'A Kosovo Fairytale' (2009). The short played at festivals globally and won the student film prize at the 2010 Tampere International Film Festival in Finland.

In 2012 her short film script 'Stiff' (previously titled 'One-Way Ticket') was selected for the Focus Features Africa First Program. She developed the script with Focus Features and received $10 000 towards the production budget. The film was selected for the 2014 Palm Springs International Shortsfest, and won Best Short Film at the 2015 Africa International Film Festival.

She is currently completing post-production on another short film called 'Love Motel' shot on location in South Korea. In 2014 she produced %u201CThe Tortoise and His Tail%u201D for writer/director Jean Lee as part of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women.
